Blue Riddim Band – Alive Jamaica and Restless Spirit Out of Print LP Rips

The Blue Riddim Band – Alive In Jamaica

Blue Riddim became the first American band to play Sunsplash in Jamaica. “We were voted co-‘Best Band’ of the entire festival,” McLane says. “It blew me away that we blew them away. I was expecting pineapples and cantaloupes thrown at us. We’re playing these old songs, and we’re also from America, and we’re also white. It’s five o’clock in the morning, and they’re going, ‘What in the … ?'”

Culture In Dub Vinyl Rip

One of my favorite Dub LP’s with one of my favorite dub songs Iron Sharpen Iron Dub. Mixed by the great Errol Brown this comes from a vinyl rip of my LP.  The LP is long Out of Print, but the tracks have been reissued on CD. I love the warm sound of my LP’s so I decided to share this one even though it is not 100% OOP.

The Jamaica World Music Festival in Montego Bay on Nov 27, 1982 was part of a 3 day event that combined rock, pop, soul and reggae artists. The festival never became the annual event it was hoped to become, but lucky for fans most of the show has become available to collectors.  Some of the other bands that played at the festival included The Clash, The Grateful Dead, Aretha Franklin, The Talking Head, The English Beat, Toots and The Maytals, Rita Marley and The Melody Makers, and the historic and controversial set from Peter Tosh. Here in its complete form is the wicked set from Black Uhuru who were in top form in 1982.  This recording comes from the master tape so it is as good as quality you can get without a studio remaster. I will feature other sets from some of the other artists in future posts.

Linton Kwesi Johnson w/ Dennis Bovell Dub Band – Sep. 27, 1981 Stockholm, Sweden Full Show

I am a big fan of Linton Kwesi Johnson. His Dread Beat and Blood was one of the most played piece of vinyl on my turntable back in the mid 80’s. This show from Stockholm captures Linton in his prime with the Dennis Bovell Dub Band. It was broadcast on the radio and I give thanks to those document and share rare unreleased roots like this show.

Israel Vibration – Roslyn, In my Father’s House, NY Oct. 10th 1979 Great Pre80’s Live Reggae

Today’s special is one of the oldest recording of the great roots harmony group Israel Vibration. To me I-Vibes are only the original trio, they might still carry on with the name but nothing compares to the beautiful sound the group in their hay-day with the original three members Wise, Apple, and Skully.  Enjoy this rare treat, I think there is only one other Israel Vibration show from 1979 and that is from Sunplash in Jamaica.
